ABOUT PRINTMAKER STUDIO
PrintMaker Studio is a Vancouver fine art print studio specializing in archival pigment printing, professional mounting, and custom picture framing. It’s also the home of Gallery 881, Vancouver’s only dedicated lens-based photographic centre.
We work with artists at all levels, including photographers, galleries, collectors, businesses, and anyone who wants to Make Better Prints. Our goal is to make the print and finishing process approachable, collaborative, and precise, while producing work that meets the standards of exhibitions, portfolios, collections, and finished artwork.
From digital files, negatives, and original artwork to mounted and framed pieces, we help clients bring images into physical form with care, colour accuracy, material sensitivity, and a deep understanding of how artwork lives on the wall.
PrintMaker Studio is located inside Gallery 881 at 881 East Hastings Street in Vancouver’s Strathcona neighbourhood. We share a corner with Prototype Coffee and Strathcona Beer and are part of a growing arts and small-business community on Vancouver’s Eastside.
PrintMaker Studio is the primary sponsor and production partner of Gallery 881, a contemporary lens-based art gallery. Through this relationship, we help support free exhibitions, artist talks, youth programming, accessible cultural events, and Another Room Photo Festival.

John Goldsmith
Owner, Fine Art Printer, and Gallerist
John Goldsmith is a Detroit-born artist, fine art printer, and gallerist based in Vancouver, Canada. He holds a Master’s Degree in Physical Chemistry from Indiana University, where he used light to investigate the properties of matter. During that time, he began taking darkroom and photography classes at Hull House in Chicago and started developing his own art practice.
In 2013, John was an invited artist in the inaugural Capture Photography Festival, and in 2016 he received a public art commission for display on the Canada Line. His photographs have been exhibited internationally, including at Format Festival in the UK, Third Floor Gallery in Wales, and Head On Photo Festival in Australia.
John founded PrintMaker Studio in 2020 as a fine art print and custom framing studio in Vancouver. His background as an artist, printer, and former co-creator of 560 Gallery informs the studio’s collaborative approach to printing, finishing, framing, and exhibition production.
John is also the founder and curator of Gallery 881, a contemporary lens-based art gallery located alongside PrintMaker Studio in Vancouver’s Strathcona neighbourhood. Through Gallery 881, he supports artists through exhibitions, talks, public programs, youth engagement, and community-based projects, including Another Room Photo Festival. His work with the gallery extends PrintMaker Studio’s commitment to artists beyond production, creating a space where printing, framing, exhibition-making, and public engagement are closely connected.
